The right ventricle in congenital heart disease - Cardiac T1 mapping for measurements of diffuse myocardial fibrosis
نویسندگان
چکیده
Background Measurements of myocardial extracellular volume (ECV) through cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) based T1 mapping allow for non-invasive quantification of diffuse myocardial fibrosis. The evaluation of the right ventricle (RV), often mainly affected in congenital heart disease (CHD), is complicated by its typical morphologic characteristics a thin myocardium and a distinct trabeculation. This study aims to evaluate ECV measurements of the RV in patients with CHD and to introduce a tool that simplifies RV ECV analysis.

Cardiac T1 mapping in congenital heart disease: bolus versus infusion protocol for measurement of myocardial extracellular volume
Background Measurement of myocardial extracellular volume fraction (ECV) with T1 mapping cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) before and after the application of a gadolinium-based extracellular contrast agent enables the assessment of diffuse myocardial fibrosis. The equilibrium between blood and myocardium contrast concentration required for ECV measurements can be achieved with a primed contrast...
متن کاملLV geometric and substrate remodelling in patient with Ebstein anomaly - a deep insight from MRI T1 mapping fibrosis imaging
Background Ebstein anomaly is a kind of congenital defect of tricuspid valve mainly affecting the right ventricle, recent evidence have suggested the LV geometry remodeling in patient with Ebstein anomaly due to potential RV-LV coupling. The aim of this study-we investigated the interaction between abnormal right ventricle and left ventricle and whether myocardial fibrosis is the basis of abnor...
متن کاملT1 mapping: characterisation of myocardial interstitial space
UNLABELLED Myocardial fibrosis is always present in end-stage heart failure and is a major independent predictor of adverse cardiac outcome. Cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) is an imaging method that permits a non-invasive assessment of the heart and has been established as the "gold standard" for the evaluation of cardiac anatomy and function, as well as for quantifying focal myocardial fibros...
متن کاملQuantification of diffuse myocardial fibrosis and its association with myocardial dysfunction in congenital heart disease.
BACKGROUND the etiology of ventricular dysfunction in adult congenital heart disease (ACHD) is not well understood. Diffuse fibrosis is a likely common final pathway and is quantifiable using MRI. METHODS AND RESULTS patients with ACHD (n=50) were studied with cardiac MRI to quantify systemic ventricular volume and function and diffuse fibrosis. The fibrosis index for a single midventricular ...
متن کاملDiffuse myocardial fibrosis in patients after Fontan operation: a T1 relaxometry magnetic resonance pilot study
Background Patients with single ventricle (SV) circulations are at risk for heart failure, frequently burdened by both systolic and diastolic cardiac dysfunction. The mechanisms of adverse remodeling of functionally univentricular hearts are incompletely understood. Diffuse myocardial fibrosis is one of the candidate morphological substrates, for which cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) derived n...
